NOTEWORTHY TILE TRENDS

The conventional clean subway tiles or the household favourite monochrome hexagon tiles are designs that we’ve seen time and again. These tiles maybe classic but are also not the most original choice. It’s time to switch things up and opt for something different this time round.

Below, you’ll find a round-up of the tile trends for this year, which includes the affordable basics to the high-end custom designs:

Graphic Mosaic Treatments

Try a more intentional approach with mosaic tiles instead of scattering them across the backsplash or shower stall in a random fashion. You could anchor the bath with a grid motif that reads strong but not severe. You don’t want to go over the top with your tiles.

Faux Marble

Who doesn’t want marble tiles incorporated in some part of their home to lend that effortless, luxe finish? However, stunning as they can be, marble tiles also have several strikes against it. These tiles are care-intensive, delicate and prone to staining, not to mention expensive as well. However, with advances in technology, you’ll find tiles that replicate the intricate veining and depth of marble but do not contain the mineral in their structure, and are hence easy on the pocket.

Honed Finishes

Gloss and glitz get all the attention when it comes to tile finishes. However, of recently matte, honed finishes are catching eyes as well. They have a distinctive presence and go extremely well with a minimalistic aesthetic. If you’re on the hunt for wall tiles for your living room, give these a try.

Large-Format Tiles

The overscale version of tiles has been on-trend for a few years now, and this trend isn’t going anywhere soon. The version has relatively fewer joints and grout lines and is hence easier to maintain. The pattern is less busy, which is easier on the eyes as well.

Restrained Accents

If you want to add a pop of colour or pattern to an otherwise neutral field tile, consider making use of accent tiles in a narrow strip around the bathroom. Make sure you use anti-slip tiles when experimenting on the bathroom floor. This way, you can break up the solid tile pattern in a subtler way and add character to the room.
