How to Make Your Kitchen Winter Ready

The winter is upon us and the chills can get too much to bear. Stepping out of the quilt may be difficult; many even refuse to go to the bathroom and the kitchen because of how cold the sanitary ware or the room is.

Kitchens, in turn, face issues of their own during winter. Water that comes through the taps is too cold or, at times, it may freeze in the pipes. Since kitchen plays a valuable role in giving warmth to everyone through the foods made inside its four walls, it becomes important to get it winter ready as well. Read on to know how you can make the kitchen more inviting:

1. Clearing out freezer & fridge

As the winter chill starts rising in the air, it becomes important to clean out any frozen water that may be stuck to the walls of the freezer or the fridge. Wipe down the shelves and watch out for food past its expiry date. Replace the food in the fridge with winter specials such as carrots, spinach, frozen meat cuts, various condiments that can stir up a simmering pot of flavorful soup.

2. More towels by the sink

If you don’t use gloves while washing the utensils, fix a small towel holder and hang warm, dry towels close to the sink. Chances are that you will want to warm up your hands immediately after you finish washing the utensils in ice-cold water. You may play around with colours that match your kitchen’s walls or stand out in complete contrast for an interesting effect.

3. Install rugs

Rugs are a sure-shot way of making a room look warm in winters. The additional layer on the ground with a woolen finish is bound to fill you up with a level of comfort. Rugs are excellent add-ons, especially if you have natural stone tiles in the kitchen; they are very effective in keeping the kitchen floor warm. Best place to fix rugs would be under the dining table, so that people can rest their feet on the soft floor comfortably.

4. Stock up the pantry

When it’s cold, you would not want to waste time searching for things you need. So reorganize your drawers, move your summer regulars to the back of the cupboards and stock up on the winter essentials – soup packets, cinnamon, hot chocolate, tea, coffee and more. Ensure their placement is such that they can be easily accessed to avoid any waste of time.
